Why Give?

Charitable gifts and alumni engagement make it possible for us to provide the facilities, equipment, and educational experiences necessary to maintain our role as a leader in optometric education, clinical practice, and vision science research. From scholarships to attract the best and brightest students to clinical and research facilities that help us recruit and retain top-notch faculty, your support is critical. You are our partner in creating a bright future for our students and alumni, as well as the patients who receive the benefit of their knowledge and experience.

There are many ways you can support the Indiana University School of Optometry. Gifts of all sizes can make a difference. Beyond the immediate impact of your donation, your participation in supporting the school has a positive influence on corporate and foundation donors who place a high value on alumni and community support. Your support sends the message that our alumni and friends value what we do. Please contact us if you would like to discuss the giving options presented here.

Cash or cash equivalent

Cash donations we receive from individuals and companies throughout the year are essential to our success. These gifts provide immediate support for scholarships, building renovations, equipment, and special projects. Cash gifts can be made online or via mail.

Gifts of appreciated property (securities)

Charitable gifts of appreciated property can provide greater tax benefits than a cash gift of equal value. To learn more, visit the Guide to Giving or contact the Office of Advancement.

Planned gifts

Naming the School of Optometry in a charitable bequest or will reduces estate taxes for your heirs and offers you the peace of mind that your legacy to the School of Optometry will benefit future generations. To explore the variety of planned gift options available to you, please visit the Guide to Giving or contact the Office of Advancement.

Endowed gifts

You can make an investment in the future by contributing to endowed funds through cash or cash equivalent gifts, gifts of property, and/or by naming the School of Optometry in your estate plan or will. Endowed funds are invested, with a portion of the interest used to fund scholarships, awards, research, and professorships in perpetuity.

Gifts-in-kind

Gifts of equipment, no-charge loaned equipment, reduced pricing, two-for-one purchases, and related programs greatly aid in the functioning of our eye care centers. Such generosity enables us to maintain current, state-of-the-art equipment and provide a quality clinical education for our students.
