Dr. Debra L. McConnaha is currently a clinical assistant professor responsible for the Vision Rehabilitation Service at the Indianapolis Eye Care Center. After graduation from IU in 1976, she worked as a quality control chemist for Ford Motor Company until returning to school at the IU School of Optometry. After graduation, she completed a residency in Low Vision and Rehabilitative Optometry at the Los Angeles Veteran’s Administration Outpatient Center in 1985. She then accepted a position in a private low vision practice in Burbank, California, as well as served as part-time clinical faculty in low vision at the Southern California College of Optometry. Dr. McConnaha returned to Indiana in 1988 as Chief of Low Vision Services for the IU School of Optometry. She was responsible for teaching the low vision and geriatric courses as well as clinical supervision of the low vision clinics at the Indianapolis and Community Eye Care outreach clinics. She left IU in 2004 for private practice in low vision and primary care. Dr. McConnaha returned to IU in 2011 as clinical faculty in low vision and neuro-optometry at the Indianapolis Eye Care Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana. She also spends one day per week as the low vision specialist for the Roudebush Veteran’s Administration Medical Center.
