Dr. Edward and Cecilia Chow Scholarship Created to ‘Pay it Forward’

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

The IU School of Optometry is thrilled to reveal the creation of a second scholarship during the second annual IU Day! Dr. Edward and Cecilia Chow have announced a $100,000 gift to endow the Dr. Edward and Cecilia Chow Scholarship in support of student scholarships for those who have a financial need.

Dr. Edward Chow is a world-renowned expert in orthokeratology and specialty contact lenses; and he and his wife, Cecilia, have a lifelong commitment to the profession of optometry and its future. Dr. Chow has improved the eyesight of many patients from the Toronto area, and also from many cities in Ontario and the United States. He enjoys the challenge of treating difficult vision problems and specializes in orthokeratology, contact lenses, ocular nutrition, and dry eye treatment. Dr. Chow is the first Canadian optometrist to engage in the practice of orthokeratology and has performed over 3000 procedures to date. The Chow’s son, Theodore "Teddy,” is a current student, future alumnus, and highly valued member of the Indiana University School of Optometry.

When asked why he was moved to create the Dr. Edward and Cecilia Chow Scholarship, Dr. Chow explains: “IU School of Optometry has provided the best study environment for my son these past two years. He is a completely different person after enrolling with IU. The faculty members have provided him with the best education and encouragement on how to be a top optometrist. From the bottom of my heart, I am deeply touched and grateful. We are establishing this scholarship for someone who has the vision and desire to further his/her education but requires some financial support. I hope more people will do the same for a great school like IU.”
