Eye U @ Indiana University College Summer Program

Summer 2023 Program

July 17–20

Over the course of three days, you will learn about the optometry application process, participate in labs and lectures with some of the optical world’s brightest researchers, and get to know the city of Bloomington with fun events around town!

Students will be introduced to current faculty and students and hear firsthand about their journey through optometry school. By attending this camp, you will connect with the IUSO Office of Student Administration and benefit from our support now and in the future. Plus, you will receive a tour of the optometry school, including our optical research labs, our new laser lab and the Atwater Eye Care Center, IU’s own public eye care clinic.

Cost/travel details

This experience is provided free-of-charge to students admitted to the camp. University housing and meals will be provided. Students will be responsible for their own transportation to Bloomington, IN. 

(For students in need, IUSO offers reimbursement for a round-trip ticket to Indianapolis, IN. Students admitted to the camp may contact Luke Bilotta, Associate Director of Student Administration, for reimbursement details and travel planning.)

Application criteria

To be considered for the program, applicants must:

  • Be a current college student
    • Preferential consideration will be given to applicants entering their junior or senior year of college in the fall of 2022 and who are underrepresented minorities or first-generation students enrolled in a pre-health/science related major
  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered for the camp

The Application Form includes:

  • Basic Student Information
  • A short essay, describing why you would like to participate in the program
  • One recommendation form
    • We will email the Recommendation Form to your requested reference contact when you apply. Please be sure to inform your reference about the program and ask them to complete the form.
  • An unofficial university transcript, uploaded in your application to the camp.
