High School Summer Program

Funding and Travel

Participants only need to cover their transportation costs to and from the IU Bloomington campus and personal expenses.

All other program costs - including lodging and food - are covered.

Coronavirus COVID-19 Message

Due to the continuously evolving COVID-19 situation, Indiana University has canceled all summer programs.  Unfortunately, Indiana University School of Optometry will not be able to host any of our summer programs this year.   We will host the camps in the summer of 2021.  Please check back this fall for dates and details.

Application Criteria

To be considered for the program, applicants must:

    • Be a high school student entering their junior or senior year this fall and
    • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Priority consideration will be given to members historically underrepresented groups, namely students who identify as African-American, Latino/Hispanic, American Indian/Native American, or Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander or first generation college students interested in a pre-health/science related major.
    • A complete application will contain:
      • One Application Form, (application will be available in 2021)
      • One Recommendation Form
        • We will email the Recommendation Form to your requested reference contact when you apply. Please be sure to inform your reference about the program and ask them to complete the form.
      • One Official Transcript.
        • Applicants must request that their High School Counselor send an official transcript to the IUSO Student Administration Office by:
