Dr. Rogala earned his optometry degree from Ohio State University after graduating from Michigan State University with highest honors in the biological sciences. Having experienced a successful and rewarding career teaching optometry/ophthalmology for many years, he subsequently became involved in academic and faculty affairs at both the college and broader university-levels. He was then granted an opportunity to pursue full-time graduate studies in higher education leadership at Harvard University, where he recently completed a master’s degree with the aim of helping to advance optometric education for all its stakeholders.
At Indiana University, he is currently a visiting professor serving as Director of Curricular Development for the School of Optometry. Prior to his graduate program in educational leadership, he was a professor at the Kentucky College of Optometry, where he enjoyed laser and minor surgical privileges while teaching most of the courses in the ocular disease tract. He has also been a faculty member at Western University of the Health Sciences in California and at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, as well as a visiting academic fellow at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
The results of his research on age-related macular degeneration have been published and cited in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and before members of congress on Capitol Hill. He has been an invited speaker at more than a dozen universities in countries around the world and at numerous professional education conferences.
