Online continuing education (CE) courses presented by the Indiana University School of Optometry offer a wide range of educational opportunities for optometrists and are designed to help practitioners fulfill their requirements for license renewal.

The objective of this course is to become familiar with indications for fitting daily disposable contact lenses and the benefits and obstacles to fitting this modality. Current lenses available in the U.S. marketplace by the major manufacturers will be reviewed, including sphere, toric, multifocal and cosmetic options in hydrogel and silicone hydrogel materials. Patient selection and practice management will also be addressed.

Optic nerve swelling can be intimidating to even the most experienced practitioners. This course covers several conditions that lead to true or presumed optic nerve head swelling. An emphasis is placed upon the systemic ramifications of these conditions. The diagnosis and management of papilledema, ischemic optic neuropathy, optic neuritis, optic nerve head drusen, compressive optic neuropathy, papillophlebitis and others are discussed in detail.
Plaquenil Toxicity Detected Without Bull’s Eye Maculopathy

This course will discuss how to detect early signs of toxicity in patients taking antimalarial drugs. The clinical features of Bull’s eye maculopathy will be reviewed as well as which clinical tests to perform during routine screening of these patients. Risk assessment for toxicity and management of patients on antimalarial drugs will also be discussed. A case report is included that demonstrates how to calculate cumulative and daily dosing.

This course covers the natural history, diagnosis, and management of choroidal effusion. Post-operative hypotonous choroidal effusion, post-operative hemorrhagic choroidal effusion, idiopathic uveal effusion syndrome, and medication induced uveal effusion are discussed in detail. An emphasis is placed upon clinical management of each condition. Several differential diagnoses are discussed as well including retinal detachment, choroidal tumors, and retinoschisis.
