Dr. T. Rowan Candy and the Visual Development Lab study the visual development of infants and young children. Our studies of visual optics, eye movements and vision are designed to provide insights into developmental questions that are central to the clinical care of young patients. We collaborate with other vision scientists, cognitive scientists, neuroscientists and computer scientists.

Dr. Connolly and her research team collaborate with other researchers locally and nationally to help optimize the vision of children. Funding for her team’s work comes from industry and the government. Within industry sponsored trials, Dr. Connolly’s team works closely with IU’s Clinical Optics Research Lab on several ongoing investigations of methods to slow down eye growth. Another longstanding funded collaboration is with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), a collaborative nationwide network dedicated to facilitating multicenter clinical research in strabismus, amblyopia and other eye disorders that affect children. The network, which was formed in 1997, is funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI). There are currently over 100 participating sites (offices) with over 300 pediatric ophthalmologists and pediatric optometrists in the United States and Canada participating in the network. Indiana University School of Optometry is one of PEDIG's top recruiting sites.
