Dr. Lyon has been on the faculty at IUSO since 2000. He provides didactic education in binocular vision, pediatric optometry, and neuro-optometric vision rehabilitation. As Director of the Concussion Care Service, he provides advanced vision care to patients who have suffered mild traumatic brain injuries (m-TBI). He is also involved with the vision rehabilitation residency as a co-coordinator at the Indianapolis Eye Care Center.
Dr. Lyon lectures internationally on managing post-concussion vision symptoms, pediatric optometry, and other binocular vision disorders. He founded the Vision for the Future service program in 2015 and is currently the Co-Director, aiming to improve global access to vision care for children. Currently, Vision for the Future operates in Indiana and Rwanda. He has taught optometrists worldwide how to create and implement advocacy programs to improve the access and affordability of vision care.
Dr. Lyon is the local principal investigator for the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG). PEDIG is a national group of optometrists and ophthalmologists that performs clinical research on treating amblyopia and other binocular vision disorders in children. He also collaborates with other faculty members at IUSO to explore questions in post-concussion vision care and binocular vision.
